ACCESSIBILITY TIPS
How to zoom in on your screen:
Some people prefer to zoom into the screen or web browser to see things better. Here are a few ways to do that depending on your setup:
- On Windows, press the Windows key and the plus sign (+) simultaneously to zoom in. You can also use the “Magnifier” application found under “Accessories.”
- On Mac, go to “System Preferences,” open “Universal Access,” and select the “Seeing” tab. Check the box under “Zoom” to turn it “On.”
- On your Apple device, tap “Settings,” then “General,” then “Accessibility.” Tap the “Zoom” button and toggle it “On.”
Alternatively, you can use “Ctrl” (or “Cmd” on Mac) and the plus (+) or minus (-) keys while in a web browser to zoom in or out.
How to change the colors or fonts on the page:
To enhance clarity, you may want to change colors or fonts. Most major web browsers offer options to do this:
- In Internet Explorer, go to “Tools,” then “Internet Options,” and proceed to “General.” From there, select “Colors,” “Fonts,” or “Accessibility.”
- In Mozilla Firefox, choose “Options,” then “Content,” and finally “Fonts & Colors.”
- In Safari, select “Preferences,” then the “Appearance” tab, and hit the “Select” button next to the font fields.
- In Chrome, go to “Preferences,” activate the “Show advanced settings” link, and modify the settings under the “Web content” section, where you can change the “Font size” or set default “Page zoom.”
We recommend adjusting font size and zooming in for an improved experience.
How to find and use a screen reader:
Screen readers convert text into speech, making content accessible to users who cannot see the screen. We strive to ensure our website is compatible with screen readers.
Free options include NVDA for Windows and VoiceOver for Mac. We also recommend JAWS for Windows, which works with most web browsers.
To navigate, screen readers accept keyboard inputs. For example, using the down arrow in JAWS allows you to move through items on a page. JAWS also supports Braille input.
How to use accessibility tools on mobile:
Both iOS and Android provide great tools to help you access content:
- VoiceOver for iOS and TalkBack for Android are screen readers built into each operating system. To turn on VoiceOver, go to “Settings,” then “General,” and “Accessibility,” then toggle “VoiceOver” on. You can also set the “Accessibility Shortcut” to “VoiceOver” to toggle it by triple-clicking the Home button. TalkBack offers a similar setup for Android devices.
Other accessibility tools on iOS include “Zoom,” “Magnifier,” “Invert Colors,” “Color Filters,” and “Reduce White Point.” These can also be accessed through the “Accessibility Shortcut.”
