The word “Maundy” originates from the Latin word mandatum, meaning “commandment.”
During the Last Supper, Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples and gave them a “new commandment” to “Love one another; as I have loved you” (John 13:34).
Christ’s action on the night before he died (now known as Maundy Thursday) was a profound example to his disciples, showing them how to love through service, humility, and kindness—principles that resonate universally, regardless of one’s beliefs.
